LIFECYCLE project
For this project, I am going to investigate the recycling of tires. I chose this because I want to inform the public about how recycling tires, and not burning them, is very important.
timeline
Raise And extract-
The raw material extraction uses input energy. You need to extract both natural and synthetic rubber. You also need carbon black, which is a fine, light powder that is made when natural gases or crude oil are burned with small amounts of oxygen.
Process-
You use energy to form the ingredients before manufacturing the whole tire. You need to make the correct substances in order to have a correct output product.
Manufacturing-
Most of the energy is used in actually manufacturing the tire itself. You have to make the polyester cords encased in rubber for the outline of the tire. The you need to wrap steel belts around the tires core. the wall on the side is a thick layer of rubber that has been melted and molded to the correct shapes and dimensions.
use-
You then transport the product to stores so it can be sold to the public. Tires cannot go bad when sitting in a store unless damaged by a customer, so the tire will stay in the store until it gets sold by the company. Tiresusually are always sold induvidually, yet, store will have deals to make you buy multiple. such as "If you buy 3 tires, you get the fourth tire free!" which is a business strategy.
dispose-
Once the tire has been driven for about 50,000 miles, it is about worn out, and needs to be replaced. Since bringing tires to the landfill was banned in 2006, people started burning them, which releases an extravagant amount of chemicals and gases which heavily pollute the Earth. So instead of burning your used tires, the proper disposal would be to recycle them so the can be reused and not go to waste while polluting the atmosphere.

conclusion questions
a. What is meant by product lifecycle?
A product lifecycle is a business technique that lists the four different stages from the time it enters the market until it is no longer sold
b. Why is it important for companies who make products to research and determine a product’s potential lifecycle?
It is important because through studying your competition's product lifecycle a business can expect what will become of their product.
c. What would you change about your product? Why?
I would try to substitute all the harsh chemicals for earth friendly materials so that the production of the tires wouldn't pollute the earth as much.
d. Do you think your product will evolve or become obsolete over time? Why?
I think it will become obsolete because i think that transportation will evolve into hover cars and such.
e. What is a trade-off?
A trade-off is when you choose one product over another
f. Do you think that trade-offs were made during the design phase of your product?
Yes, it is all of the harmful chemicals that hurt the atmosphere and that is what used when manufacturing the tires.
g. Why is it important to recycle?
It is important to recycle because if we just piled on the landfills all the materials that could be recycled, we waste pace in filling up the landfill, and also we waste energy and materials and time making new of that same product.
h. How do product designers play a role in recycling?
"Going green" has become more popular in product production causing for the use of recycled material.
i. What role does society play in the recycling effort?
Society as a whole is trying to save the planet through reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling their unwanted goods. Also, now that we have become more educated on the advantages of the recycling effort, we are more likely to choose products made out of recycled material or that can be recycled in the future
j. What can you do to help?
Us as the consumers can take part in going green activities, buy recycled/recyclable products, and support businesses taking part in their responsibility to reduce wastes.
